Author Interview: Payal Roy

Author InterviewThank you for taking my interview and giving me an opportunity to share my thoughts and words in your wonderful blog.

Name: Mme Payal Roy
Do you write with a pen name? If so, what is it?

I do not have a pen name. I write with my real name.

In which country were you born, and which one do you live now?

I was born in India, but presently live in France.

Which genres do you write in?

I write fictional short stories, fantasy, adventure-inspirational, motivational stories and poetry-both fiction and non-fiction.

How many books have you had published? (feel free to name a few of the most recent)

Two of my books have been published. Both of them are ebooks available across Smashwords, Barnes and Noble and Amazon Stores.

Collection of Short Stories titled 12 Precious Anecdotes from Life at Amazon and Poetry Collection with travel photographs of scenic natural locations across Europe titled Memoirs: The Soulful Recollection Friendship and Life. This Ebook is available at Smashwords, Barnes and Noble and Apple iTunes Store.

Since I write in the genres of Short Story collections and poetry, therefore, my first published ebook was a collection of poems inspired from nature, emotions, people, travel and personal experiences. The book is titled Memoirs: The Soulful Recollection Friendship and Life

Which is your most current published novel?Payal Roy - Precious Anecdotes From Life

My most recent published Ebook is titled 12 Precious Anecdotes from Life, which is available at Amazon Kindle Stores for both buying (Non-Prime members) and monthly free borrowing (Prime members). Incidentally, this book shot to the Amazon #1 bestseller list in 2 categories–short stories and inspirational fiction last month during an exclusive free promotion.

What’s the working title of the next book you plan to publish?

My next book will be a poetry collection where readers would have an opportunity about being immersed in realms of fantasy poems with a unique fantasy story and the next moment return to reality through reality based poetry. The Working title would be MAYA-Ripples of Imagination.

Do you read hard cover, paper books, ebooks or audio? Or a mixture?

I generally read a mixture—ebooks, paperbacks and sometimes hard covers. However, I am not into audio books yet.

If you could be a character from a book (not one you’ve written), which would you choose?

I love reading a variety of genres that include fantasy, fiction-thrillers and literary fiction. I am an avid reader of Colin Forbes’ books where the characters Tweed, Paula, Paul Newman group together as undercover agents and solve intriguing mysteries. Therefore, I would like to be the character of Paula Grey in any of Colin Forbes mystery-thriller novels.

What is the first 300 words in you latest novel (ending with a period)?

My latest ebook 12 Precious Anecdotes from Life has 12 stories with the narration in first person. There is a lead character in each story that shares his or her tale with a common friend.

The first 300 words from this book:

It was 10 pm on a cold Friday night. A chilly north wind howled in the distance and a gale seemed to take form somewhere near our city. It was raining heavily. I could hear the steady torrent of the downpour and the haunting wails of the wind.

I was sitting at my study desk trying to focus and proofread a recently finished manuscript. I needed to submit it after a couple of days, and I was getting irritated at the blatant disruptions outside, from the fiery wrath of nature.

My mind was not helping me at all. It kept getting diverted, reminding me of the events that had taken place earlier in the day. I decided to write them down…the insight and wisdom I had gained, and opened my notebook. I had a steaming mug of espresso on my writing desk and a box of chocolates beside my notebook. I glanced at them with nostalgia, smiled and began writing.

This is what I wrote:

“My name is Anita Maher. I am a senior editor at a renowned advertisement agency in the city. However, I am an author at heart and a freelance writer too. This is my book, where I record interesting aspects that life gifts me with, through a variety of everyday experiences.

Early that morning, I had gone to a friend’s place to attend a get-together. There were four of us, childhood friends meeting after a long time. The get-together was fun and amusing. We prepared lunch, snacks and finally a big dinner. We kept chatting and catching up with the goings-on in each other’s lives.”

Who is your favourite character in this most recently book?

My favourite character is a young working woman titled Anita Maher. She is the common friend of the supporting characters who appear in 12 different stories and share their experiences with her in each story. Anita is free spirited, thoughtful and a writer at heart. She loves helping people and learning from life. She feels life is filled with choices and she believes in living life to the fullest. She is a friend, a mother, a cousin, a grand daughter and a supportive office colleague all at the same time. These traits of hers get unravelled in each of the 12 stories that are shared with her in this book 12 Precious Anecdotes from Life.
