Do you write with a pen name? If so, what is it?
I do but not for most of my fiction. I only use a pen name for my erotica – and for that reason, I’m not telling.
In which country were you born, and which one do you live now?
Born, raised and currently living in Canada.
Which genres do you write in?
I’ve dabbled in most speculative fiction, but I primarily write fantasy and horror. I have also written a romance and a thriller, but both with paranormal elements.
How many books have you had published?
Four novels, two in my dystopian Fervor series and two in my Masters and Renegades fantasy series. I’ve also published a zombie novelette, Shear Terror, and multiple short stories in a variety of venues.
My dystopian science fantasy novel, Fervor, from May December Publications. It was actually the tenth novel I had written.
Which is your most current published novel?
The second in my Masters and Renegades fantasy series, Casualties of War. It was released in June 2012, also by May December Publications.
What’s the working title of the next book you plan to publish?
I have two that are coming out shortly, my third Fervor novel, Transcendence, and my first attempts at self-publishing, The Blood is Strong, which is a tribal dark fantasy YA novel and the first in my Snowy Barrens Tribe trilogy. I’m hoping to have The Blood is Strong out by the end of summer, but I’ve run into the odd delay here and there. Transcendence is scheduled for a tentative September release date.
Do you read hard cover, paper books, ebooks or audio? Or a mixture?
A mixture, usually whatever I happen to be able to get my hands on.
If you could be a character from a book (not one you’ve written), which would you choose? That’s really difficult, but I’d probably choose one of the dragonriders of Pern. The idea of bonding and flying with dragons is quite thrilling.
What is the first 300 words in your latest novel (ending with a period)?
Reid stared wearily at the dusty crates and boxes before him. The half-elfin Renegade Mage was exhausted after several months of organizing, packing, and cleaning. This task had seemed overwhelming at first, and had it not been for the persistence of Reid’s business partner and companion, Gillis, he would have abandoned the endeavor long before now. The pathway on which he had chosen to embark was going to be long and tumultuous. He was intending to challenge his rivals, the University-trained mages known as the Masters, head on, and if he could not see his way through the mess that was his inheritance from his late teacher, Gerant, he would not be able to overcome any hurdles that his nemeses might have to offer.
Now, after going to great efforts to discard what was deemed entirely worthless and not likely to sell, Reid was finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The final challenge that he and Gillis faced was to determine which of the remaining items they wished to keep for their new Renegade magic school and what they wished to take to market.
Reid stared at the chaos within the chamber. It was much more orderly than what it had been when they had first arrived, but it still would require further sorting. As he gazed at the variety of tools and devices, Reid caught sight of his reflection in a mirror at the other side of the room. He had changed somewhat in the last couple of years. He still had the typical slender build and fine features of a half-breed, but the slight points on his ears were much more noticeable now that he had cropped his long black hair. He had refused to shave off his moustache, however, despite what people claimed was an appropriate look for a respectable businessman.
Who is your favourite character in this most recently book? The book introduces my favourite character, Dee Aaronsod, but she plays more of a secondary role in the book. I guess I’d have to say Reid Blake, my reluctant hero and primary protagonist.
