I’ve learned a lot about blogging since January 2011, when this blog came to life. Over the years, I’ve tweaked it and completed major renovations countless times. Sometimes I made these changes because I was bored with the site; other times I learnt how to improve the appearance and ‘saleability’ of it.
Along the way, I have strived to make the blog design user-friendly. After all, if visitors can’t find what they want and what I want them to find, it frustrates both parties. I’ve been on blogs and websites where information was difficult to locate. I usually give up and search for another site with the same information.
I hope my blog is user-friendly and things are easy to find, but I’m always looking for ways to improve the experience. So when D. Wallace Peach made a post entitled 7 Steps to a User-Friendly Blog, I had to see if there were any tips I could use.
There were, so if you have a blog, I suggest reading her post. Visually, it might not improve your page, but the behind-the-scenes technical stuff will improve a visitor’s experience.
El Camino
After watching the movie The Way, I’ve decided to walk El Camino in spirit first while I wait for the opportunity to go to Spain. My trek of 880 kilometres will be tracked on my El Camino page. I’ve been walking since the end of May, but I didn’t start keeping track of the distance until July 1st.
So far, I’ve walked 95 km. I just left Puente la Reina, and I am on my way to Mañeru. So far, my feet feel great–especially with the new hiking shoes. However, my tendinitis is not improving. On the bright side, it’s not getting any worse.
I think this is why facebook is the most popular social media. It isn’t flexible, but it is the easiest to use for most people’s basic needs.

This is why Facebook is becoming unpopular with many people. Facebook makes the rules that everyone has to follow, and users are hating their rules. Their dictatorship is starting to go over the top.
I get more ads on my account than ever before and I don’t get notices from some accounts because I haven’t ‘liked’ their posts enough. Facebook thinks I want to see the most popular posts as if it’s a popularity contest. I want to see the most recent, so I always have to click that option every time I sign on. I will be happy when I ditch Facebook in about two years. Maybe it will even be sooner.
Life without Facebook will be good.

A few have tried to replace Facebook with a more-friendly environment, but they haven’t come near to reaching that size because Facebook was first. MeWe is one of them: https://mewe.com/

I agree, Cheryl. I’m up to 10 kms per walk four times a week. I plan to do a few 20 km hikes on the weekends in August to see how my feet feel about that. It will be cooler than, and I won’t be faced with 30 degrees and high humidity.

Thanks, Elisabeth. I hope the tendinitis gets better soon too. It makes my foot feel tired though I know it’s not.
I usually listen to music, but I’m thinking of audio books for the future.

Thanks so much for sharing, Diane. And have a wonderful walk. What a pleasure and way better than sitting in front of a screen. 🙂

You’re welcome, Diana. There were a few items in your list I had never considered before. I’ve made the changes so simple to me, but big for visitors.
Walking as I do, I usually find something to make the walk stand out. Sometimes it’s people and sometimes it’s animals.

I think it is so cool you are doing the Camino in spirit. A great way to get in shape for the real thing in a few years! Best of luck.

Thanks, Darlene. When I’m out on my walks, I think about what I’ll need to take with me, what it will feel like to walk in a strange place, the people I might meet along the way and ways to scheme how to make it happen. I’m going to download either a book in Spanish or Spanish music to take on my walks. I want to get my ear tuned for the language.
And, yes, it is getting me in shape and toughening up my feet.

[ Smiles ] Hi Diane, in order for anyone’s blog to be successful, it needs to be user-friendly.
In my case, my blog is easy to navigate and I have created specific pages for it; which helps the visitor to find the topics that they are interested in.
