“Fluid of Life” Proof Arrives

It was a busy morning so when I heard a knock on the door, I wondered who was interrupting me in getting things done. Oh! A delivery driver. I remembered the proof for Fluid of Life was supposed to arrive today, but I had forgotten until I heard the knock.

Getting the first copy of any book is always exciting. I dropped what I was doing, opened the package and examined the book.

“Natural Selection” Proof Arrived

A few weeks ago, the proof for Natural Selection arrived. The plan is to launch it in October. It’s my first dystopian, but it’s not like others in the genre. There are no zombies, gore, lone survivor, mass destruction of the planet, Hunger Games style tyranny or Mad Max desperation.

It’s a simple story suitable for kids 12 and up. I hadn’t set out to write a young adult book, but it happened. There are no harsh curse words, rape or sex scenes. There is mild kissing.

When I think of it, it’s cleaner than most current Disney cartoons aimed at ages 12 and below.

The most difficult part of getting the books published is the colour tones on the cover. I’ve done enough interior designs to know exactly how to lay out a book the way I want, and I’ve created enough covers to get the layout correct the first time. However, the colour…well, that’s hit or miss.

You see, what you see on the computer screen isn’t exactly how the printing press at CreateSpace sees it. Often the printed version is darker. Now that I know this, I purposefully make covers lighter than I desire. However, the actual tone is difficult to reach without experimenting.
